COUNTDOWN... THEATRE AND DATES FOR RED RIVER COMING SOON...

I also spent this week looking at theatres for the production of "Blood Makes The Red River Flow". I will make my final decision once I see the venue I have in mind one more time. The only dates available there in February are the 7th thru the 12th. It is right smack in the Theatre District. Once I sign on the dotted line tickets will go on sale just in time for Christmas. They will make a great gift! I will also be talking with the 4 publicists considering taking on this production. Stay tuned...

ON THE SET OF COMMERCIAL SHOOT

Well it was just like old times being on set of major productions. This was a commercial starring actor Blythe Danner... You know Gwenythe's mom. It was shot in the most ornate old theatre. They gave us lots of goodies to munch on as we waited... And waited... And waited... That's show biz! I also ran into two people that I knew on the set. One was an ex co-worker from when I worked at "Cats" on Broadway and the other was in the cast of "Tut" which I did Wardrobe for NYMF this past October. The small world of entertainment. Enjoy the pics!

QUITE A WEEK FOR MY PLAY "A WOUND IN TIME"!

This week I was notified that my play "A Wound In Time" which I wrote, produced, and directed at Nuyorican Poets Cafe is now listed in Theatre World V.67. It is an archive of hundreds of Off Off Broadway productions and their credits made available nationwide to producers, industry people, students, and Library of Congress.

I also received a judge's comment who viewed my play for the 2010 NY Innovative Theatre Awards. Although we did not win these comments mean the world and further inspires me to bring AWIT to Off Broadway!

Dear Stephanie,

The following comments were left about your production of “A Wound In Time”.

Judge 1: This was a long show 2 hours and 20 minutes. It's hard to hold an audience that long, but they did. It was a wonderful evening in the theatre and I'm delighted I had the chance to see it. I was especially glad to see such well written and acted women on stage. The story was compelling, complex, funny and the characters rich.

You are free to use these comments however you would like. We do ask that if you post or print them that you credit them as “2011 IT Awards Judge”. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks again and have a great season,
Hillary

My new historical drama has a brand spankin' new website which I created all by my self. Whew! Didn't think I could pull it off... I have posted some nice old Creole photos circa 1800's, video clips, and lots of other surprises will be coming your way! The Production Team includes David Brooks as Stage Manager and Set Designer. He was the SM of the last play I acted in "Julius Caesar Set In Africa". He is such a blessing.; Light Designer is Richard Abrams who has 45 years in the biz. He has been running things up at Yale Drama School for years. So grateful to have him. Angelina Scantlebury is Costume Designer who returned to NYC from working on films in LA. I really appreciate their enthusiasm and belief in this play. Yes I finally decided to take on a role AND direct... Stay tuned as I'll be adding the rest of the team down the road!

My Pal The Legendary Harold Cromer- Dance, Dance, Dance

Last month I hung out with my buddy the legendary Tap Dancer and Entertainer Harold Cromer from the Duo Stump and Stumpy. This man can tell you stories about his encounters with all the true Hollywood and Broadway legends. Does the name Greta Garbo ring a bell? We met 10 years ago when I was working on Broadway bartending and ushering in the Broadway houses where he once played. I never get tired of hearing his fascinating stories because he has so many. He's been at it for over 70 years. Doesn't he look fantastic? And check out the video of him taking over the floor with his dancing and singing.

"BLOOD MAKES THE RED RIVER FLOW" APPROVED FOR FISCAL SPONSORSHIP

My Creole drama "Blood Makes The Red River Flow" which I had hoped to have raised funds for a Fall production will be relaunched as it has been approved for fiscal sponsorship by mega Arts organization Fractured Atlas. So donors will not only get tickets and dinner as perks but a tax deduction as well. I will be taking down the present campaign on Indiegogo and relaunching it next week. Since this drama is also a history lesson I'm shooting for production for Black History Month. Look for major news...

Closing CTH's Henry V and Wuzzup Next...

Wonderful closing performance of Henry V! Truly a class act! I had a blast working with actors who were "professional" in the true sense. Looking forward to working with the Classical Theatre of Harlem again... Let's see... Where was I with my fundraising and launch of "Blood Makes The Red River Flow"? Looks like Black History Month (February) would be the best time for production. Working on revamping campaign to make donations tax deductible, and on a high profile director to direct. Still pondering whether I'll take on the role of Yaya. Stay tuned...

Busy! Busy! As Wardrobe Head For CTH Henry V

OMG! Got a little sidetracked with my sudden gig as Wardrobe Head for the renowned Classical Theatre of Harlem for the production of "Henry V". Yes, I do it all and for the love of it! Show opens on August 10th-September 4th at the Shabazz Cultural Center aka the Audubon Ballroom. This weekend the cast performed at the Richard Rogers Amphitheater in Harlem's Mt. Morris Park. It was a wonderful show and they rocked the stage to a large turnout under the stars! Here's some footage and pics I took while backstage. Click this blog's title to go to the CTH website for more info.

I am still in fundraising mode to bring "Blood Makes The Red River Flow" to the stage and considering playing the role of Yaya, the assertive Creole mother...

BLOOD MAKES THE RED RIVER FLOW... Could Full Production Be Soon?

Besides working on getting my stage play mystery/thriller "A Wound In Time" on DVD I am eyeing a full production for my provocative historical Creole drama "Blood Makes The Red River Flow" in the not so distant future. Researching the Creole-wear of the 1800's and shopping for a theatre for possible Fall production. I'm offering great perks for contribution for the production of the play. A few of the members of the reading will also be a part of the production. Click on this title to learn more...

MAY 1ST "BLOOD MAKES THE RED RIVER FLOW" STAGED READING

I have secured a space and date for the staged reading of "Blood Makes The Red River Flow". All roles are already cast except for the role of Ferdinand Juan Carlos Montero. Auditions for that role will be held in late March. I am very excited about this play, which I dedicate to the Creoles of the Cane River who inspired this play, and the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I pray that none of those wonderful people that I interviewed for my documentary experienced that terrible tragedy, and that all are in good health.

This play shows the humanity of the people during those trying times of slavery in the Americas, and serves to educate regarding the unique heritage and diversity of African descendants in the Western Hemisphere.

"BLOOD MAKES THE RED RIVER FLOW": The New Play Is Finished

The new play is finished. I will be casting for a staged reading in April to test the flow of the play, and see what revisions are needed. "Blood Makes The Red River Flow", which takes place in Louisiana circa 1802-1961, is fiction based on historical facts from my research, and interviews with Creoles for my documentary "The Descendants of Africa: Evolution of a People and Culture".

THE SYNOPSIS:

Western Louisiana in 1961, as the Civil Rights Movement goes into full swing, Gabrielle Laviteaux Montero Jones primps in the mirror as she prepares to get presented to Black Society at the Cotillion. Her grandmother overhears her arrogant and naive remarks about being "special" coming from a line of beautiful Creole women who all were presented at "Debutante Balls". Grandma, or "Guma" as she is affecitionately called, has to school her on the sacrifices and struggles of her ancestors, and about the truth and the shame of the Placage System.

In 1802 in a Spanish, but soon to be French again Louisiana on the Red River, Gabrielle's ancestor Lizette Laviteaux is being presented to French and Spaniard men of means by her mother Yaya, of Wolof/Arab and French ancestry. She is about to enter what is called "Placage", an arrangement with wealthy European men to prevent a life of working in the fields, a life of poverty, and illiteracy during slavery. Lizette is reluctant, but her mother is pushy as she will benefit as well, and will make a good "deal" for her daughter.

"Blood Makes The Red River Flow" covers the trials and tribulations of Lizette Laviteaux, and provides an education for her descendants. It is inspired by my interviews, and filming in Louisiana for my documentary, "The Descendants of Africa: Evolution of a People and Culture".

My New Call In Radio Show: MULTICULTURAL MOMENTS

Listen to internet radio with Stephanie Wilson on Blog Talk Radio

I am taking my cultural activisim to the next level with a new call in radio show, "Multicultural Moments", which will debut on February 6th at 6:30pm EST. It will tackle the issue of racism by fighting the ignorance that perpetuates it. I will have guests of all ethnicities discuss discrimination coming from outside as well as within their respective groups, and examine the norms in our society that make us all susceptible to be racists. Listeners can call in and share. Stay tuned...

The Documentary and New Play...

Now that I have completed the run of my play "A Wound In Time", and my return to stage acting in "Julius Caesar" I will be working on resuming the filming of my anti-racism documentary "The Descendants of Africa: Evolution of a People and Culture" to raise funds for location filming in Latin America and Africa, and I have continued writing the new play "Blood Makes The Red River Flow", which is historically based on my research and filming of The Creoles in Louisiana for the documentary. I would also like to do outreach with my play "A Wound In Time" for cultural diversity appreciation purposes as well as provide a thrilling drama. So 2011 will be a very busy and, hopefully, productive year for me. Look for more updates in the coming weeks.
